Micro Mayhem is an educational game made for students, families, and classrooms. We built it to teach immunology through play — not to collect personal information. This policy explains, in plain language, what we do and do not collect, and how we protect the children who play.
This Privacy Policy describes how Discovery Collective ("Discovery Collective," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Micro Mayhem game and related websites and apps (collectively, the "Service"). Micro Mayhem is developed for Discovery Collective by Filament Games and is part of the Cell Collective family of science-learning tools.
Micro Mayhem is designed for learners in approximately grades 5–8 and may be used by children under the age of 13. Because the game is intended for children, we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"), Google Play's Families ("Designed for Families") requirements, and Apple's Kids Category guidelines. We have designed the Service to be safe for children to use without providing personal information.
We have intentionally built Micro Mayhem to minimize data collection. The Service does not collect any of the following:
Micro Mayhem does not include social features, chat, user-to-user messaging, or the ability to share content with other users.
To let a player continue where they left off, the game may store progress information (such as the current level, score, or settings) locally on the device. This information stays on the device and is not transmitted to us in a way that identifies the player.
Like most websites and apps, our hosting providers and app stores may automatically process limited technical information — such as device type, operating system, general region (country-level), and basic crash or performance logs — to keep the Service running, secure, and stable. This information is used only to operate and improve the game and is not used to build advertising profiles or to identify individual children.
We use the limited information described above only to:
Micro Mayhem does not display third-party advertisements and does not use advertising networks. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not use children's information for behavioral advertising or marketing.
When Micro Mayhem is used in a school or district setting, the school often acts on behalf of parents in authorizing student use of educational tools, consistent with COPPA and FERPA. Because the game does not collect personal information from students, no student records are created or shared with us through normal gameplay. Schools participating in a research pilot are covered by separate consent and research-ethics (IRB) documents provided directly to the school and to parents or guardians.
The game is delivered through standard hosting and app-distribution platforms (for example, Google Play and the Apple App Store) and may run on web-game technology provided by Unity. These providers may process limited technical data under their own privacy policies in order to deliver and run the app. We do not integrate third-party advertising or analytics SDKs that track children across apps.
Because we do not collect personal information from players, we do not maintain personal profiles of children. Any limited technical data processed by our providers is retained only as long as needed to operate the Service and is protected using reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards.
Parents and guardians have the right to review what information, if any, is associated with their child, to request deletion, and to refuse further collection or use. Because Micro Mayhem is designed not to collect personal information from children, there is typically nothing to review or delete. If you have a question or a specific request, please contact us using the details below and we will respond promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes that affect children's information, we will take appropriate steps to provide notice.
